LAUNCH OF THE COMBINED CYCLE CLOSURE OF THE BRIGADIER LÓPEZ THERMOELECTRIC PLANT

Central Puerto advances with the start of works for the Combined Cycle closure of the Brigadier Lopez Thermoelectric Plant, located in the Sauce Viejo industrial park (RUTA 11º KM 455), 22 km from Santa Fe capital. The work will involve an estimated investment of US$150 million for the company.

The plant, which has a dual-fuel Siemens SGT5-4000 F gas turbine with a total nominal power of 292 MW, will have an additional power of 140MW thanks to the combined cycle closure work. That is to say, it will have a total power of 432MW, which will imply supplying more than 300,000 homes throughout the country, injecting power into the interconnected system through linking at 132kV. In the first instance, the plant will facilitate the creation of more than 300 jobs (between direct and indirect workers), seeking to expand that capacity so that day by day more local suppliers develop their sector, providing solutions to its requirements.

In this regard, Fernando Bonnet,
General Manager of Central Puerto, stated:

“From the moment we acquired the Plant we have focused on taking all the necessary steps to create the conditions that allow this complex work to be carried out in the best way, prioritizing reviews, improvements and adaptations that optimize and modernize the existing facilities. The importance of this work lies not only in the efficiency that the new combined cycle will achieve, being among the most efficient in the country, but also the fact that it will be able, due to its location, to use the gas provided from Vaca Muerta with the connection of the new recently built gas pipeline and the ongoing reversal of the northern gas pipeline, allowing the Brigadier Lopez Thermal Power Plant to use and be dispatched with natural gas most of the time.”

“We are very proud to be able to launch the beginning of this project that means an optimization of resources, and a new growth and diversification of the company’s energy matrix and with the predominant consumption of natural gas also contributing to the energy transition.”

Operation of a Combined Cycle Power Plant

An open cycle plant produces electrical energy through a generator driven by a combustion turbine, the main fuel used for this being natural gas. Closing the cycle implies that a recovery boiler uses the heat from the combustion gases of that gas turbine to produce steam which drives a second turbine. Another generator is coupled to this steam turbine, increasing energy generation without the need to use new fuel and therefore making the system more efficient.

The use of heat in the exhaust gases of the Gas Turbine (TG) itself makes it possible to generate the steam necessary for thrust in the Steam Turbine (TV). Additionally, the gases already used in the heat recovery end at a low temperature, which improves the conditions of total gaseous effluents. The plant is located within the Sauce Viejo Industrial Park, where Central Puerto has a participation in different areas: Safety and Hygiene , Human Resources, Corporate Nursing.

He also participated in the construction of the Medical Center that provides assistance to all the companies within the Park and the entire community and made donations of computer equipment to different educational and security institutions. We continue to generate
