Central Puerto and AXION energy sign an agreement for renewable energy supply and I-REC certificates

Buenos Aires, October 15, 2025. – Central Puerto, Argentina’s leading power generation company, and AXION energy have signed a strategic agreement for the supply of energy from renewable sources to AXION’s refinery located in the city of Campana, Buenos Aires province. The contract also includes the issuance of I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificates), which certify the renewable origin of the energy at an international level.

Under this five-year agreement, 25% of the energy consumed by AXION energy’s refinery will come from renewable sources. This volume represents a total supply of approximately 60 GWh per year, generated by Central Puerto’s wind and solar power plants located in the southern regions of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Salta provinces.

Through this initiative, AXION energy will reduce its carbon footprint, avoiding the emission of approximately 124,700 tons of CO₂ during the term of the contract.

The agreement between both companies represents a key step toward more sustainable operations, reaffirming AXION energy’s commitment to developing sustainable and efficient processes that create social, economic, and environmental value, while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the UN Global Compact Principles.

“It is extremely important for Central Puerto to have reached this strategic agreement with AXION energy, a company that serves as a model in terms of sustainability policies at the national level. We are convinced that this represents a great opportunity to begin generating synergies between both companies”, said Gabriel Ures, Commercial Director of Central Puerto.

Meanwhile, Melisa Prost, Executive Manager of the Technical Division at AXION energy, stated:“We are convinced that energy competitiveness, efficiency, and sustainability must go hand in hand. This contract demonstrates that it is possible to ensure efficiency in our operations, guarantee reliable supply for our refinery, and at the same time, move toward an increasingly cleaner energy matrix.”

Prost added: “Thanks to the I-REC certificates included in the agreement, the renewable origin of the energy consumed at our Campana refinery is validated under international standards. This is the site where we have made the largest investment in Argentina’s refining sector in the past 35 years.

With this new alliance, Central Puerto reaffirms its commitment to advancing the transition toward clean and competitive energy solutions, strengthening its role as a key player in the electricity market.
